A Poignant Christmas Card

Caroline’s mother Louisa was absent from Manchester at Christmas in 1910, having travelled to Canada, probably in October 1910, to be with her daughter Marion on Galiano Island in British Columbia’s Gulf Islands, for the birth of Louisa’s first grandchild.  That turned out to be a granddaughter, Ruth Enke, born on December 5, 1910.  Louisa did not travel back to Manchester until possibly March 1911.  Because of the close bond betwen them, this must have been a difficult time for Caroline.
